thrifty thursday. un-girly accessories. June 18, 2009

I’m pretty sure that I made that word up, “un-girly.” Oh, well. That’s what this blog is all about: making up shit. It’s what I do. Actually, I have no idea what I’m typing right now, so I’m just going to stop. This week, I found five different accessories that girly-girls would probably not wear, but I like them anyway. In ascending order, here they are:

Coinbeast Coin Purse by Blue Q

coinbeast coin purse by blue q.

First up is this hilarious, quirky, adorable coin-eating monster coin purse. Sure, it’s not girly, but it’s completely unexpected, and you will get the craziest reactions from people, I think. Such as, “What the fuck is that?” and “You’re fucking weird, man…” Priceless. Except not really because it costs $6.50 (almost priceless) here, at Plasticland.

pinstripe fedora.

Papaya is selling this great fedora in a versatile grey, and you can buy it here, for their sale price of $7.99. How many girly chicks do you know who wear hats?! Yes, I just made a generalization, and yes, I’m being sarcastic in order to make up for the fact that I couldn’t think of anything witty to say about this piece. Thank you.

My Pet Octopus Ring

my pet octopus ring.

I think this ring is beyond cool, but octopi are definitely not know for being a girl’s best friend. At least, I don’t think they are… Regardless, if the thought of those little legs on your finger and this octopus adoringly looking up at you make you smile instead of shudder, pick on up here, at ModCloth, for $7.99. He (doesn’t it look like a he?) comes in antique gold (which looks like brass) and this silver, and ModCloth also sells a cuff and necklace.

gun grenade charm necklace

gun grenade charm necklace.

To me, guns are a bad-ass accessory, but I know that a lot of people don’t like them. But! A fake gun on a necklace will do nobody any harm. So get yours here, at Hot Topic, where they’re selling it for $12.

Wild Goose Pocket Watch Necklace in Brushed Brass

wild goose pocket watch necklace in brushed brass.

Finally, this necklace that may remind you of your grandpa. It looks pretty vintage and can probably be used in a girly outfit, but because it has a goose on it, I labeled as un-girly. Stereotypical, I know. Anyway, get this gorgeous thing here, at Lulu*s, for $19, where I just make it under the $20 mark. Yay!

sunday shopping spree. sweet dresses. June 14, 2009

So, when I write “sweet,” I don’t mean “suh-weet!” I mean “people will think you are sweet.” You know? Kind of saccharine and innocent? Like that. But moving on: today, I have six different dresses, from six different retailers, and I love every single one of them. Maybe it’s because I’m really into dresses, or maybe it’s because I like indulging in my girly side once in a while. No matter the reason, the fact is, they are here, and they want you to buy them! Well, I guess I’m just putting words into their non-existent mouths, but you get what I mean.

woven tea party dress.

I don’t go to any tea parties, but if I did (and I desperately want to do so), I would definitely wear this dress, with a large sunhat. And maybe some gloves? You get the picture. As the cheapest dress, at $22.80, it seems as if my hopes of wearing this dress (regardless of whether or not it’s at a tea party) are not lofty. Get it here, at Forever21, and you can choose from sizes small to large in this color (fuschia, or pink) or orange.

drawstring plaid dress.

Okay, first off: doesn’t this dress look purple? Doesn’t it?! Sigh. Is it just me because I can’t tell if I’ve been looking at the computer too long? Well, anyway, the reason that I ask so fervently for agreement is because Papaya says it’s “light grey,” which I know must be wrong. Oh, well. Get it here, for $26.99, in this color or a nice navy. It comes in sizes small to large.

black and white plaid corset dress.

Some people probably won’t agree with me that this is a sweet dress, but I stand by the fact that I think it is. Sweet like a school girl. Or something. Get it here, at Hot Topic (where else?) for the ultimately sweet price of half-off! Yes, that’s right. It’s now $30.98, instead of its original tag of $62.00. This plaid is the only color, but the range of sizes includes extra small to extra extra large. That’s my commercialized store! Spreading punk to the masses!

daydream sun dress.

I think this dress can claim the title of “Sweetest Dress of Them All.” It’s white, for one, and it has that pure innocence look about it, don’t you think? Cutiemues is selling it for $52 here, and it comes in sizes small to large.

Cultural Trust Dress

cultural trust dress.

ModCloth always has the most elegant and endearing dresses. I love them. Even though this dress is quite black, I think that it is still a sweet dress for its neckline, ruffles, and darling buttons. Who doesn’t like little buttons in a sweet dress? No, really. Tell me who, and I’ll kick their ass. Ahem. It comes in sizes small to large here, for $64.99.

delightful blue petal like prom dress.

Last (but certainly not least, as you will soon see when I write the price), is this gorgeous, ethereal dress. Sure, the name has the word “prom” in it, but I could easily see it being worn at a fancy dinner or something equally high-class. Although, I’m not really sure how you would sit down in this thing. I would think that the “petals” would be a downright bother. If you don’t think so (or don’t care), Unique Vintage sells them here, and it’s on sale for $88, in sizes extra small to large. But! If this gorgeous blue isn’t your thing, it also comes in white, pink, orange, and black, where the choice of sizes and the price is the same. Secret: I think this dress would make me look like a fairy, and that is precisely the reason that I like it.

thrifty thursday. ruffled shirts. May 21, 2009

Did anybody have a doubt about my love for ruffles? …I didn’t think so. Anyway, this “Thrifty Thursday” post will soon become routine. In short, everything written in a post like this one will be under $20, hence the “thrifty” part, of course. This week, I found a lot of ruffled shirts (nine, in total.) from various places (but mostly from Forever21, where the ruffle rules apparently). Unsurprisingly, a lot of them are white, but I did find some gorgeous colors, with equally interesting names, such as “aqua” and “sage,” which is really code word for “light blue” and “teal,” respectively. Go figure.

rosy ruffle top.

First up, is this little number that features puff sleeves and an interesting trim that Forever21 has taken to calling “crochet-like bubble edge details” (but I’m guessing they didn’t know what to call them, really). Regardless of the weirdly-named detailing, this shirt would be a great addition to any wardrobe. Buy it here, at Forever21 for $15.80 in yellow, pictured, and “ivory” (white, for all you non-elephant-poachers). Both comes in sizes small, medium, and large.

sleeveless ruffled blouse.

Next, I have this tuxed-like shirt to show you dear readers. The ruffling in this shirt is considerably less eccentric than many of the pieces featured here, but it has the addition of a waist tie that I really like (you know bows and me…). Buy it here, at Papaya, for $15.99, in sizes small, medium, and large.

ruffled cap sleeve top shirt.

This beauty is next. Look at all those ruffles! Except, this is nothing. Look down at the bottom of this post, and then you’ll know how many ruffles Forever21 can stuff on their blouses… It is a very classic-looking ruffled shirt that will lend itself well to an accompanying vest, especially because no ruffles lower at the waist means no weird bunching under said vest. Buy it here, at Forever21, for $17.80. Sizes include small, medium, and large.

sheer ruffle top.

Oh, no! Another white top! I told you this would happen, didn’t I? Well, don’t despair; most of the rest have other colors to choose from. Anyway, this one here is definitely ruffly. I mean, look at that fan detailing in the collar! Gorgeous… Buy it here, at Forever21, for $17.80. This white top comes in sizes small, medium, and large. Am I sensing a pattern here, Forever21? Do they not have such sizes as extra small or extra large? How droll.

AQUA

smocked waist blouse.

This shirt is one of my favorites. Partly because of the color and partly because of the little ruffled cap sleeves. Adorable! Buy it here, at Wet Seal, for $18.50, and choose from the aforementioned aqua, which is pictured, and black. Unlike Forever21, Wet Seal offers its customers sizes extra small to extra large, in both colors.

ruffle button top.

I like that this shirt would look really great with a wide black belt around the waist. The collar is also lovely, and I adore those little buttons at the top of the collar and at the bottom of the keyhole. It’s $18.99 here, at Charlotte Russe. This top is the last white one, which is the only color it comes in, but you can get it in sizes small, medium, and large.

crepe cotton ruffle top.

What a great color! I’m lusting after it already. Except… the crepe turns me off just a wee bit. The texture can be unsettingly, like old people skin, but other than that disturbing fact, I really do like it. If you do, as well (and don’t mind the old people skin), get it here, at Forever21 (where else?) for $19.80. It comes in the pictured sage, yellow, and white, which all are available in Forever21’s only three sizes (apparently): small, medium, and large.

sheer pinstripe ruffle top.

Like cotton candy? Then, you’ll love this shirt. Isn’t it just the epitome of cotton candy clothes? I assure you, dear readers, it is. Lightly striped and immensely ruffled, this shirt is fantastic. The smocked waist will also help to give an illusion of an hourglass figure, which is always nice. Get it here, at Forever21 (stop hating! the last one is from there, as well…), for $19.80. Buy either the featured peach (pink) or cream (white) in sizes small, medium, and large.

ivonne ruffle front shirt.

Okay, last one! It seems as if Forever21 just crammed as many ruffles as they could onto this shirt. It’s like some sort of ruffle factory… Do you think that they keep appearing the longer you wear it, and before you know it, they’ve eaten you? …shudder… Maybe I wouldn’t mind, though… I do love those ruffles! Anyway, enough horror stories. Get this ruffle monster here, at Forever21, for $19.80. Both the orange, pictured, and the white come in small, medium, and large. Way to break the mold, Forever21… NOT!

ruched halter top. more peacock feathers… May 20, 2009

Filed under: clothes. — stylistanumberone @ 6:09 am
Tags: , , , ,

Okay, I admit it. I’m obsessed. Only this time it’s peacock feathers. You know, to add to my list of keys, bows, ruffles, dresses, skulls, plaid, buttons… OH GOD I AM OBSESSED WITH EVERYTHING. Excuse me while I go cry in the corner. …I’m back! This shirt has quite a few things going for it. First off, the, um, peacock feather print (which we’ve already established, as you may know.), which is well-placed and not boring at all. Second, is the style: this type of halter is one of my favorites, but if you have broad shoulders, you may want to hold off on buying it, if you dislike making them look bigger. If not, buy away! Third, the color is gorgeous and quite versatile. This shirt would go well with nice black pants, like on the mannequin, or even a high-waisted skirt to make it interesting.

more peacock feathers?

If you’re not tired of the peacock feather theme, buy this shirt here, at Papaya, for $14.99. It comes in sizes small, medium, and large, but they should sell out quickly because the other color of this shirt, brown, is already sold out. Go now!

heart bangle set. non-slutty plastic. April 28, 2009

Whenever I think of plastic, I am reminded of boob jobs. The slutty kind. But fear not, dear readers! This kind of plastic is un-slutty and very adorable. These heart bangles would go perfectly with that Buffalo Plaid Tube Dress I posted earlier.

an acceptable form of plastic.

You can buy them here at Papaya for $4.99. They also come in white and black for those readers who want a more minimalistic approach. Or are afraid of color. Whichever.
