thrifty thursday. un-girly accessories. June 18, 2009

I’m pretty sure that I made that word up, “un-girly.” Oh, well. That’s what this blog is all about: making up shit. It’s what I do. Actually, I have no idea what I’m typing right now, so I’m just going to stop. This week, I found five different accessories that girly-girls would probably not wear, but I like them anyway. In ascending order, here they are:

Coinbeast Coin Purse by Blue Q

coinbeast coin purse by blue q.

First up is this hilarious, quirky, adorable coin-eating monster coin purse. Sure, it’s not girly, but it’s completely unexpected, and you will get the craziest reactions from people, I think. Such as, “What the fuck is that?” and “You’re fucking weird, man…” Priceless. Except not really because it costs $6.50 (almost priceless) here, at Plasticland.

pinstripe fedora.

Papaya is selling this great fedora in a versatile grey, and you can buy it here, for their sale price of $7.99. How many girly chicks do you know who wear hats?! Yes, I just made a generalization, and yes, I’m being sarcastic in order to make up for the fact that I couldn’t think of anything witty to say about this piece. Thank you.

My Pet Octopus Ring

my pet octopus ring.

I think this ring is beyond cool, but octopi are definitely not know for being a girl’s best friend. At least, I don’t think they are… Regardless, if the thought of those little legs on your finger and this octopus adoringly looking up at you make you smile instead of shudder, pick on up here, at ModCloth, for $7.99. He (doesn’t it look like a he?) comes in antique gold (which looks like brass) and this silver, and ModCloth also sells a cuff and necklace.

gun grenade charm necklace

gun grenade charm necklace.

To me, guns are a bad-ass accessory, but I know that a lot of people don’t like them. But! A fake gun on a necklace will do nobody any harm. So get yours here, at Hot Topic, where they’re selling it for $12.

Wild Goose Pocket Watch Necklace in Brushed Brass

wild goose pocket watch necklace in brushed brass.

Finally, this necklace that may remind you of your grandpa. It looks pretty vintage and can probably be used in a girly outfit, but because it has a goose on it, I labeled as un-girly. Stereotypical, I know. Anyway, get this gorgeous thing here, at Lulu*s, for $19, where I just make it under the $20 mark. Yay!

sunday shopping spree. sweet dresses. June 14, 2009

So, when I write “sweet,” I don’t mean “suh-weet!” I mean “people will think you are sweet.” You know? Kind of saccharine and innocent? Like that. But moving on: today, I have six different dresses, from six different retailers, and I love every single one of them. Maybe it’s because I’m really into dresses, or maybe it’s because I like indulging in my girly side once in a while. No matter the reason, the fact is, they are here, and they want you to buy them! Well, I guess I’m just putting words into their non-existent mouths, but you get what I mean.

woven tea party dress.

I don’t go to any tea parties, but if I did (and I desperately want to do so), I would definitely wear this dress, with a large sunhat. And maybe some gloves? You get the picture. As the cheapest dress, at $22.80, it seems as if my hopes of wearing this dress (regardless of whether or not it’s at a tea party) are not lofty. Get it here, at Forever21, and you can choose from sizes small to large in this color (fuschia, or pink) or orange.

drawstring plaid dress.

Okay, first off: doesn’t this dress look purple? Doesn’t it?! Sigh. Is it just me because I can’t tell if I’ve been looking at the computer too long? Well, anyway, the reason that I ask so fervently for agreement is because Papaya says it’s “light grey,” which I know must be wrong. Oh, well. Get it here, for $26.99, in this color or a nice navy. It comes in sizes small to large.

black and white plaid corset dress.

Some people probably won’t agree with me that this is a sweet dress, but I stand by the fact that I think it is. Sweet like a school girl. Or something. Get it here, at Hot Topic (where else?) for the ultimately sweet price of half-off! Yes, that’s right. It’s now $30.98, instead of its original tag of $62.00. This plaid is the only color, but the range of sizes includes extra small to extra extra large. That’s my commercialized store! Spreading punk to the masses!

daydream sun dress.

I think this dress can claim the title of “Sweetest Dress of Them All.” It’s white, for one, and it has that pure innocence look about it, don’t you think? Cutiemues is selling it for $52 here, and it comes in sizes small to large.

Cultural Trust Dress

cultural trust dress.

ModCloth always has the most elegant and endearing dresses. I love them. Even though this dress is quite black, I think that it is still a sweet dress for its neckline, ruffles, and darling buttons. Who doesn’t like little buttons in a sweet dress? No, really. Tell me who, and I’ll kick their ass. Ahem. It comes in sizes small to large here, for $64.99.

delightful blue petal like prom dress.

Last (but certainly not least, as you will soon see when I write the price), is this gorgeous, ethereal dress. Sure, the name has the word “prom” in it, but I could easily see it being worn at a fancy dinner or something equally high-class. Although, I’m not really sure how you would sit down in this thing. I would think that the “petals” would be a downright bother. If you don’t think so (or don’t care), Unique Vintage sells them here, and it’s on sale for $88, in sizes extra small to large. But! If this gorgeous blue isn’t your thing, it also comes in white, pink, orange, and black, where the choice of sizes and the price is the same. Secret: I think this dress would make me look like a fairy, and that is precisely the reason that I like it.

fashion friday. dresses, tights, and ankle boots. June 12, 2009

Okay, so I decided to present these outfits in a different way this time (and future times, probably), by using Polyvore to put the clothes into one cohesive image, rather than a million different pictures. Those pictures were extremely hard to format, and while I do not consider this way any better, in terms of aesthetics (on the contrary, I did like the find the other way better to look at), I do find it much, much easier to do. So there you go. This week I put together a cute, sleeveless dress, footed tights, and ankle boots for your viewing pleasure. Once again, these outfits are put together by category: under $20, under $40, and under $1000. The over $1000 category is way too impractical and works mostly for single items, rather than whole outfits, so don’t expect to happen any time soon. Anyway, onto the outfits!

under $20
All of the items above are priced less than $20. What you can’t see in this picture of those white (“cream”) tights is that they have a lace pattern on them that is quite nice. You can get them here, at Forever21, and they are on sale for $2.99. I think that three dollars for tights is lovely, don’t you? Next up, the dress. It’s $19.50 at Wet Seal, here, and comes in sizes small to large. Okay, so the deal with those boots? Newport News (those bastards…) do not have a picture of the shoe color that I chose from their website. What kind of retailer are they?! Disgusting… But, they *did* have a swatch of the color, which is what is in front of you now. Yeah, that purple color. Your job: imagine those boots, in that color. And get them here, for $17.99, and choose from sizes 5 to 10 and 11.

save $40
All of the items above are priced less than $40. These tights are so gorgeously purple (or “lily,” as Shopbop describes them…), and I love them. Get them here, for $36. They come in sizes small to medium/large (with two sizes in between, so go check it out). Next up, that lovely dress. Lace is a love of mine, of course. I think the contrast of girly and down-to-earth (from the boots) make for a nice combination. Get it here, at Forever21, for $22.80. The dress comes in sizes extra small to large. I really like these boots, as well, although I know that some of you dear readers won’t. They are cowboy boots, after all. You can buy them here, in sizes 6 to 9, from Wet Seal.

under $1000
All of the items above are priced less than $1000. I like this outfit most of all (at least, I think so… I really like all of the outfits, though), mostly because of the boots and the dress. So retro! Anyway, the tights are available here, at Shopbop, and they come in size 4 (which I take to mean the regular tights sizing and not juniors or misses sizing…). Yes, they are foldover, but who’s really going to see that when you have that dress on? Also, I know that these only have one size available right now, but I’m so sure that that will change soon that I decided to post them anyway. So there. The dress is from Anthropologie (after that disgusting romper, I needed something to remind me how awesome this store is most of the time…), and you can find it here, for $128. It comes in sizes extra small to large. Finally, those fabulous boots! Look at that bow! Get them here, at ModCloth, for $42.99. You can choose from sizes 5.5 to 9, and you better. Who better to wear these shoes than one of my readers? Oh, right. ME.

thrifty thursday. rose hair accessories. May 28, 2009

Filed under: accessories. — stylistanumberone @ 9:58 am
Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Hey, there, dear readers! It’s time for another Thrifty Thursday! This week, I found five different hair accessories that will appeal to your floral (and frugal) sides. Just like every Thursday, each product listed will be under $20, so here we go!

floral bobby pin set.

I LOVE these bobby pins! They are simply adorable, and while other sites are selling them for up to twenty dollars, Forever21 is only selling them for $3.80! And you get six! They also come in four different color choices! CAN YOU TELL I AM EXCITED?! Ahem. Anyway, get them here, and choose from the combinations of hot pink and cream, red and black, white and turquoise (pictured because it’s my favorite), and hot pink and blue. This set is definitely the best deal of the bunch.

black and red check lace flower clip.

This little number is for the more wild readers out there, who decide that they need a little pattern (checkers, in this case) on their rose accessory. Get it here at Hot Topic, for $8, you wild things.

Homecoming Court Clip

homecoming court clip.

A more traditional rose clip is available at ModCloth, here, for $14.99. I guess if you like your hair clips pricier (and hopefully well-made), then these last three roses should float your boat.

Vintage Inspired Crimson Felt Flower Hair Clip / Pin

vintage inspired crimson felt flower hair clip/pin.

Felt? Huh. It’s very interesting and kind of arts-and-crafts-y. Right? Well, if you want your rose to look like a Girl Scout at summer camp made it (which is not necessarily a bad thing), get it here, at Plasticland, for $15.

full bouquet clip.

The last one on this list is arguably the most exquisite. But what else would you expect from Anthropologie, really? A lot of their accessories are to die for. But don’t die; just get it here, for $18, and choose from grey, ivory, pink (featured above), and coral (which is an orange-ish color).

So, what are you waiting for? Who doesn’t look good with a flower behind their ear?

fashion friday. graphic tee, vest, shorts, and necklace. May 22, 2009

So… another feature is born! I decided that I have way too many clothes in the backlogs of my bookmarks for this blog, so the easiest way to get rid of them quicker is to post them en masse. Every friday, I will post three different outfits that I have put together from the three categories that I use most: under $20, under $40, and under $1000. Each piece in the outfit will reflect the category, for you, the discerning shopper. This week, I decided to put together a combination of a graphic tee, a buttoned vest, shorts, a necklace, and shoes that matched the shirt. I would definitely wear each outfit, so decide your budget… I hope you like the outfits!

kadjkfajdaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa All of the items above are less than $20. I really like how this outfit turned out. I don’t think that it’s too matchy-matchy at all, but maybe you’ll disagree…? You can find the tee (yes, I know “embellished” is spelled wrong, but I just wrote what Wet Seal had on their website. Pathetic…) at Wet Seal, here, for $12.90, in sizes extra small to large. The vest is from Windsor, for $13.98, here. It comes in sizes petite (which, I believe, is smaller than small) to large. Regardless of the picture, it is in black. The necklace comes from Forever21, here, for $7.80. The shorts are from Charlotte Russe. Buy them here for $16.99, in sizes 1 through 13. Lastly, the shoes. Those gorgeously-colored shoes… Get them here, at Forever21. They are $18.80 and come in sizes 6 through 9, with no half sizes in between.

All of the items above are less than $40. I know that this outfit, with its wide range of purples, will not appeal to everyone, but I absolutely love the top that I chose for it. Skulls = my obsession, remember? Of course you do… Well, to recreate this outfit, buy it here, at Plasticland for $25. The shirt comes in sizes small, medium, and large. Next, the vest can found here, at ModCloth for $34.99 and also comes in sizes small, medium, and large. The necklace you should buy is the “mist” color (it’s actually white.) for $20, here at Plasticland. Those cute shorts can be found at LuLu*s for $24, here, in sizes 0 and 3 to 11. Finally, those cute shoes! Don’t they really remind you of the Jetsons for which they’re named? Grab them at ModCloth for $34.99, here, in sizes 6 through 10, with no half sizes available.

All of the items pictured are priced less than $1000. Like the outfits before this one, I love this shirt, as well. Look at that gorgeous plum color! And that crazy-ass dog! Fascinating… I think the white vest really makes it pop out at you, too. So… get it here, at Bluefly. For $69, you can get it in sizes extra small to extra large so that you, too, can have a sequined dog on your chest. Next, the white vest, which you can buy at Urban Outfitters, here. It comes in sizes extra small to large, for $48. The necklace, which I also adore, is $135 at Bluefly, here. Those black shorts are available in sizes 24 to 32 for $133 at Shopbop, here. Last, the shiny shoes are also from Shopbop, here, on sale for $227.50 (An odd number, I know. Are they taking tips from Forever21?). They are available in sizes 5.5 to 9 and 10.

Well, that’s it, dear readers! I hope you enjoyed my new feature, and look forward to next week’s equally fun outfits!

sunday shopping spree. coats. May 10, 2009

It’s that day of the week again! I love the Sunday Shopping Spree because it gives me an excuse (even more than this blog gives me) to hunt for cute things that fit a theme. Yay! Okay, this week, I found nine different coats for you, dear reader, from five different retailers. Rejoice in the coat! Yes, I realize that it is very nearly summer, but you could always buy these coats in preparation for winter. Right? Right! On to these lovelies, in ascending price order:

CHOCOLATE

twill self belt jacket.

Well, considering the name has “jacket” in it, you can guess that it is not really a coat but is quite cute nonetheless. This, um, jacket is $22.50 here at Wet Seal and comes in three colors: chocolate (or brown, which is pictured above), khaki, and white. You can buy khaki or white in sizes small, medium, and large and chocolate in small.

houndstooth wool swing jacket.

Yeah, yeah. I realize that this one also has “jacket” in the name. Whatever. It’s adorable. I love swing jackets. So there. If you want this cute thing, go here to Forever21, where it is $29.80 (again, with their weird prices). The site only carries this one color, in sizes medium and large. Very retro. Also, it probably won’t keep you warm. Just saying…

Wuthering Heights Jacket

wuthering heights jacket.

This next one definitely won’t keep you warm and is called a jacket, as well. And looking down the list of things to post, only one item is actually called a coat. Maybe I should have called this Sunday Shopping Spree “Jackets,” instead? Oh, well. I don’t really care to change it. Moving on! I love the name for this piece: Wuthering Heights Jacket. I hated the book, but the name calls up images of romanticism, which is also true for this jacket. Just look at. Super cute. Buy it here, at Modcloth, for $47.99 in sizes small, medium, or large.

Fawn Brown Canvas Bib Jacket by Tulle Clothing

fawn brown canvas bib jacket.

Yes, another jacket, under the guise of “Coats.” I hate you all. Anyway, this deer-colored (Get it? Fawn? I crack myself up.) jacket is quite nice, and you can find it here, at Plasticland for the not quite so nice price of $56. The site says that the jacket tends to run small, so check out their size chart before you buy. This jacket comes in sizes extra small to extra large, so availability shouldn’t hold you back.

Green Cord Cropped Swing Jacket by Tulle Clothing

green cord cropped swing jacket.

Oh, my goodness, another swing jacket! How did that get there? The swing jacket fairy must have dropped it here… It would be a shame not to tell you where to find it, now wouldn’t it? Yes. Of course. So… buy it here, also at Plasticland, in this gorgeous green color that comes in sizes extra small to medium. Once again, the site says that this item runs small, so I’m sorry for those readers who wear larger than a medium. Feel lucky, though, that you don’t have to spend $59 on this swing jacket and go buy that houndstooth one.

in the city jacket.

Okay, so even though this caption says, “jacket,” it really means “coat.” Look at it. It’s obviously a coat, right? Right. If you want to buy this misnamed black coat, get it here, at Cutimus for $68 in small, medium, or large. Look at all those buttons… and the bell-like sleeves… and the sash… Le sigh.

Polka Dot Retro Cropped Jacket by Tulle Clothing

polka dot retro cropped jacket.

Fine, this one deserves the jacket name, but I swear it’s the last one in the list that is a jacket and not a coat. Does that make you feel better, dear readers? I hope so. Buy this adorable polka-dotted charcoal jacket here at Plasticland for $86. You can get it in sizes extra small to large, which should be true to size.

Magical Mystery Tour Coat

magical mystery tour coat.

Finally! The one true coat in the list. I know you’ve been waiting for it, and isn’t it gorgeous? Look at that magnificent color! It’s almost blinding how purple this Magical Mystery Tour Coat is. The name even goes with the color, doesn’t it? Buy it here, at ModCloth, in sizes extra-small to large, for the magical price of $99.99. Maybe all those nines are somehow special and mysterious? In the my-money-is-gone-before-I-knew-it kind of way.

Notre Dame Bell Trench

notre dame bell trench.

Lastly, a coat that is called a trench. Oh, well. It has a pretty, retro feel to it, and you can buy it here at ModCloth for $104.99, which will remind you of Notre Dame and why you didn’t go there in the first place. Private schools are so expensive… This coat comes in sizes extra small to large and is definitely worthy of that bow.

sunday shopping spree. chandelier earrings. May 3, 2009

Okay, folks. Today is the day that I present more than one awesome fashionable thing to all you readers out there. I found six different pairs of chandelier earrings on six different sites for your viewing (and possibly, buying) pleasure. I think that chandelier earrings are really classic-looking and can brighten up any outfit. Without further ado, here they are, in ascending price order:

SILVER

filigree chandelier earring.

This pair is from Wet Seal, and you can buy them here for $6. They only come in silver but are a nice addition to any jewelry box.

evelyn chandelier earrings.

These gorgeous earrings are from Forever21, and you can buy them here for $8.80 and in two different colors: this black and a weird-looking yellow that might appeal to the bright and cheery populace of the world. Definitely not me.

Our next pairs hail from Urban Outfitters, and you can find them here. Since the style you receive depends on the color that you choose, I decided to show you both of the colors. The left one is silver and the right one is burnished gold. They are both $9.99 and on sale from $24. An item that is more than 50% off! I patted myself on the back for that one. No worries.

Mardi Gras Earrings

mardi gras earrings.

The fantastic earrings above are from Modcloth, here, and they only come in gold. Look at that magnificent craftmanship! Sadly, you have to pay extra for shit that good, and the price for them is $11.99.

ancient tree earrings.

I’ve never shopped at Anthropologie before. Namely because of their pricey nature. So it’s no surprise that these earrings I found there are $28. They are very pretty, though, and you can buy them here in gold or silver.

earrings

fringe chain and charm earrings.

I really like this last pair, too, but because I found them at Express, they are also very pricey. Coming in at $29.50, you can buy them here. Express is also having a sale right now: buy one and get one 50% off. Good luck finding something else!
