thrifty thursday. un-girly accessories. June 18, 2009

I’m pretty sure that I made that word up, “un-girly.” Oh, well. That’s what this blog is all about: making up shit. It’s what I do. Actually, I have no idea what I’m typing right now, so I’m just going to stop. This week, I found five different accessories that girly-girls would probably not wear, but I like them anyway. In ascending order, here they are:

Coinbeast Coin Purse by Blue Q

coinbeast coin purse by blue q.

First up is this hilarious, quirky, adorable coin-eating monster coin purse. Sure, it’s not girly, but it’s completely unexpected, and you will get the craziest reactions from people, I think. Such as, “What the fuck is that?” and “You’re fucking weird, man…” Priceless. Except not really because it costs $6.50 (almost priceless) here, at Plasticland.

pinstripe fedora.

Papaya is selling this great fedora in a versatile grey, and you can buy it here, for their sale price of $7.99. How many girly chicks do you know who wear hats?! Yes, I just made a generalization, and yes, I’m being sarcastic in order to make up for the fact that I couldn’t think of anything witty to say about this piece. Thank you.

My Pet Octopus Ring

my pet octopus ring.

I think this ring is beyond cool, but octopi are definitely not know for being a girl’s best friend. At least, I don’t think they are… Regardless, if the thought of those little legs on your finger and this octopus adoringly looking up at you make you smile instead of shudder, pick on up here, at ModCloth, for $7.99. He (doesn’t it look like a he?) comes in antique gold (which looks like brass) and this silver, and ModCloth also sells a cuff and necklace.

gun grenade charm necklace

gun grenade charm necklace.

To me, guns are a bad-ass accessory, but I know that a lot of people don’t like them. But! A fake gun on a necklace will do nobody any harm. So get yours here, at Hot Topic, where they’re selling it for $12.

Wild Goose Pocket Watch Necklace in Brushed Brass

wild goose pocket watch necklace in brushed brass.

Finally, this necklace that may remind you of your grandpa. It looks pretty vintage and can probably be used in a girly outfit, but because it has a goose on it, I labeled as un-girly. Stereotypical, I know. Anyway, get this gorgeous thing here, at Lulu*s, for $19, where I just make it under the $20 mark. Yay!

sunday shopping spree. sweet dresses. June 14, 2009

So, when I write “sweet,” I don’t mean “suh-weet!” I mean “people will think you are sweet.” You know? Kind of saccharine and innocent? Like that. But moving on: today, I have six different dresses, from six different retailers, and I love every single one of them. Maybe it’s because I’m really into dresses, or maybe it’s because I like indulging in my girly side once in a while. No matter the reason, the fact is, they are here, and they want you to buy them! Well, I guess I’m just putting words into their non-existent mouths, but you get what I mean.

woven tea party dress.

I don’t go to any tea parties, but if I did (and I desperately want to do so), I would definitely wear this dress, with a large sunhat. And maybe some gloves? You get the picture. As the cheapest dress, at $22.80, it seems as if my hopes of wearing this dress (regardless of whether or not it’s at a tea party) are not lofty. Get it here, at Forever21, and you can choose from sizes small to large in this color (fuschia, or pink) or orange.

drawstring plaid dress.

Okay, first off: doesn’t this dress look purple? Doesn’t it?! Sigh. Is it just me because I can’t tell if I’ve been looking at the computer too long? Well, anyway, the reason that I ask so fervently for agreement is because Papaya says it’s “light grey,” which I know must be wrong. Oh, well. Get it here, for $26.99, in this color or a nice navy. It comes in sizes small to large.

black and white plaid corset dress.

Some people probably won’t agree with me that this is a sweet dress, but I stand by the fact that I think it is. Sweet like a school girl. Or something. Get it here, at Hot Topic (where else?) for the ultimately sweet price of half-off! Yes, that’s right. It’s now $30.98, instead of its original tag of $62.00. This plaid is the only color, but the range of sizes includes extra small to extra extra large. That’s my commercialized store! Spreading punk to the masses!

daydream sun dress.

I think this dress can claim the title of “Sweetest Dress of Them All.” It’s white, for one, and it has that pure innocence look about it, don’t you think? Cutiemues is selling it for $52 here, and it comes in sizes small to large.

Cultural Trust Dress

cultural trust dress.

ModCloth always has the most elegant and endearing dresses. I love them. Even though this dress is quite black, I think that it is still a sweet dress for its neckline, ruffles, and darling buttons. Who doesn’t like little buttons in a sweet dress? No, really. Tell me who, and I’ll kick their ass. Ahem. It comes in sizes small to large here, for $64.99.

delightful blue petal like prom dress.

Last (but certainly not least, as you will soon see when I write the price), is this gorgeous, ethereal dress. Sure, the name has the word “prom” in it, but I could easily see it being worn at a fancy dinner or something equally high-class. Although, I’m not really sure how you would sit down in this thing. I would think that the “petals” would be a downright bother. If you don’t think so (or don’t care), Unique Vintage sells them here, and it’s on sale for $88, in sizes extra small to large. But! If this gorgeous blue isn’t your thing, it also comes in white, pink, orange, and black, where the choice of sizes and the price is the same. Secret: I think this dress would make me look like a fairy, and that is precisely the reason that I like it.

thrifty thursday. rose hair accessories. May 28, 2009

Hey, there, dear readers! It’s time for another Thrifty Thursday! This week, I found five different hair accessories that will appeal to your floral (and frugal) sides. Just like every Thursday, each product listed will be under $20, so here we go!

floral bobby pin set.

I LOVE these bobby pins! They are simply adorable, and while other sites are selling them for up to twenty dollars, Forever21 is only selling them for $3.80! And you get six! They also come in four different color choices! CAN YOU TELL I AM EXCITED?! Ahem. Anyway, get them here, and choose from the combinations of hot pink and cream, red and black, white and turquoise (pictured because it’s my favorite), and hot pink and blue. This set is definitely the best deal of the bunch.

black and red check lace flower clip.

This little number is for the more wild readers out there, who decide that they need a little pattern (checkers, in this case) on their rose accessory. Get it here at Hot Topic, for $8, you wild things.

Homecoming Court Clip

A more traditional rose clip is available at ModCloth, here, for $14.99. I guess if you like your hair clips pricier (and hopefully well-made), then these last three roses should float your boat.

Vintage Inspired Crimson Felt Flower Hair Clip / Pin

vintage inspired crimson felt flower hair clip/pin.

Felt? Huh. It’s very interesting and kind of arts-and-crafts-y. Right? Well, if you want your rose to look like a Girl Scout at summer camp made it (which is not necessarily a bad thing), get it here, at Plasticland, for $15.

full bouquet clip.

The last one on this list is arguably the most exquisite. But what else would you expect from Anthropologie, really? A lot of their accessories are to die for. But don’t die; just get it here, for $18, and choose from grey, ivory, pink (featured above), and coral (which is an orange-ish color).

So, what are you waiting for? Who doesn’t look good with a flower behind their ear?

super low fat black ruffle skirt. adjectives galore. May 6, 2009

Remember those Dollhouse Caitlyn shoes that I said needed a tulle skirt? I think I found one perfectly suited for them. It has lots of ruffles and is delightfully black and pretty edgy. Those shoes would definitely rock this skirt.

ruffle skirt

adjective-laden skirt.

Wondering where you can find such an edgy skirt that no one else will be wearing (probably)? Here at Hot Topic, of course! Where individuals go to buy the same clothes. All joking aside (and it is a joke. I enjoy Hot Topic, thank you.), the price for such a skirt is $32, and it comes in sizes medium, large, extra-large, and extra-extra-large. I’ll tell you this much, Hot Topic really caters to everybody it can; good news for the larger set out there.
